TMP Program Spotlight: Amachi Pittsburgh

Published

Amachi Pittsburgh empowers young minds to overcome the challenges of parental incarceration and to reach their full potential through one-on-one mentoring, family strengthening and reunification support, and leadership development and youth organizing.

Developed to help break the generational cycle of incarceration, Amachi's one-on-one mentoring program serves children and youth between the ages of 4-18. In this community-based program, mentors and mentees meet at least four hours per month for a minimum commitment of one year. Staff are currently recruiting for children and youth throughout Allegheny County.

Other Amachi activities include a series of Community Conversations to gather stories, testimonies, and first-hand information on the challenges faced by the families of the incarcerated. Caregivers receive a stipend for participation. Lunch and childcare is provided. They're planning upcoming cohorts and securing future funding to continue this program. To register or for more info, contact Fred Hill at (412) 403-6432 or fhill@amachipgh.org.
