Someone who has been a mentor to me...
My colleague, Scott Lammie.
This person has had such a big impact on my life because...
From the beginning of our relationship, I noticed that Scott was very busy – in terms of his professional, family and community obligations. What I directly witnessed has been a true testament to the impact he delivers. From how he approaches you with enthusiasm and unwavering positivity, by making time to give an honest opinion when you are in the midst of a difficult situation, by sharing timely nuggets of leadership in general and by being visibly present, Scott directly embodies what it means to be a mentor. Scott has helped me remain loyal to those we are privileged to serve in this world. He has encouraged me to think and care deeply for others. Most importantly, Scott has helped me become a better father, husband, brother, friend and mentor. He has instilled in me "to never forget that others behind you may be in need of your help”.
Why is mentoring important for everyone?
Mentoring is nothing short of critical to everyone. I firmly believe there are certain times in the lives of everyone where we require help from another person. Beyond the substance of a mentoring relationship, the mere thought of “having someone there for you” is invaluable. Life remains a journey that will have many unknowns along the way. In line with the thoughts of Fred Rogers, a mentor is a “helper”. Mentors are indeed helpers, who can be available whenever you may need them.
A message for my mentor...
Scott – you are appreciated beyond what you may know. The little and big things you have done for me and others are noted. Your efforts are genuinely appreciated. A most heartfelt “thank you” for your giving – the giving of your time, your spirit and your energy to help others in need. You are a blessing to me and many others in this world.
