The Importance of Using Preferred Pronouns
Let's Do This
Pronouns are a common way to refer to individuals. For example, she/her, he/him, and they/them are all pronouns. However, over the years, more pronouns have been added for those who feel as though their gender does not represent the sex they were assigned at birth.
According to statistics from the Trevor Project, 25% of LGBTQ youth use pronouns or pronoun combinations that fall outside of the binary construction of gender. This means that 1 in 4 LGBTQ youth do not exclusively use she/her or he/him. Using a person’s preferred pronouns shows that you care about respecting and creating an inclusive environment for them.
