Thank Your Mentor
This Thursday is Thank Your Mentor Day – a chance to thank someone (or multiple people!) who has made a difference in your life. Knowing how to cultivate connections within their own networks is a valuable skill for young people. Who are the adults they’re currently looking to for support? Now’s a great time to send a quick note of thanks.
Are there opportunities to enlist the support of other adults in their network who might be able to help them? Now is an equally great time to get those conversations started!
Help your young person assess their networks for caring adult support:
- Work with them to make a list of 3 goals they have for themselves in the upcoming year.
- Ask them which adults they know who might help them accomplish those goals.
- Help them practice their ask: “I’m applying for an internship. Can you help me write my resume?”
This goal-setting exercise helps young people visualize a plan for the upcoming year and shows how adult support can play a role in achieving their goals.
