Self-Reflection

Taking Time for Yourself

As caring adults and mentors, we often spend a lot of time ensuring that others have the attention and resources they need to feel supported. Sometimes, this can leave us feeling overwhelmed or anxious. It’s important to remember that self-care is critical for caregivers!

Taking care of yourself is important and can look different depending on who you ask.  Start with simple, routine check-ins to gauge how you’re feeling. Are you too tired or emotional to offer support today? If so, prioritize rest and have a back-up plan in place such as having another caring adult step in for you. After all, you can’t help others without helping yourself.

Take a look at this great resource when exhaustion hits. Remember that exhaustion is normal and helping yourself is just as important as helping others.
