Reducing Stigma Around Mental Health Support and Treatment

One in five youth will experience a mental health challenge during their life.  Caring adults can help to remove barriers to care and one of the critical first steps to this is reducing stigma around mental health challenges.

Stigma includes negative attitudes toward people with mental health challenges and can lead to discrimination.  Stigma makes it hard for young people to talk about their challenges and reach out for help.

Educating yourself and the young people in your life about mental health is an important way to combat stigma.  Check out this Childrens.com article for more ways to increase awareness around mental health and reduce barriers to support that many young people experience.  You can also check out the recaps and full recordings from our Mentoring and Youth Mental Health Series co-hosted with Jewish Healthcare Foundation.
