Reading with an Anti-Bias Lens
Reading with children can not only be fun and meaningful, but it can also be a great way to learn together and discuss hard topics. We should provide access to books that are diverse and that introduce children to important issues and subjects. To take it one step further, we can be intentional about the way we read books with children and work to read with an anti-bias and critical lens.
Introduced through their Freedom Reads series, Teaching for Change offers short training videos on how parents, educators, and caring adults can use this anti-bias reading strategy to learn to talk with youth about race and other topics. What a great way to build our communication skills to these essential conversations with young people!
