Provide extra support through career mentoring.
Career mentoring is a terrific way to support the growth, development and career progression of a young person. By sharing your knowledge, skills and experience, you can even extend your own network.
But what exactly do you do as a career mentor? You can start by having a conversation with your career mentee about what they want to be and what they think that job will be like.
Help your mentee explore different aspects of the same broad job category. Working in Human Resources is very different in a corporation than it is in education. What a young person sees of a trial attorney on Law and Order is very different than the real day-to-day life of someone in a public defender’s office.
Keeping it simple, check out this infographic of career mentoring activities that you and your mentee can use as inspiration.
