Challenge Growth

Perseverance and Problem Solving

You're probably familiar with the old adage, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again."  We've all had experiences with failure and, while it isn't easy, it is a learning opportunity.

Failure is a great teacher. It teaches problem solving skills, resiliency, and perseverance. As adults, it’s important that we create environments where young people feel safe to fail and we must remind them that not all losses are setbacks; rather they are setups for a comeback!

Next time a young person in your life experiences a failure, try sharing with him/her a story about failure in your life and how you were able to overcome it. You can also help him/her work through their failure by developing a plan about what he/she could have done differently.  Lastly, show empathy.  Failing never feels good, but it’s necessary for growth.
