Self-Reflection

Mindfulness and Relieving Stress

We all experience stress at various points in our lives, and while mindfulness isn’t a cure for everything related to stress, it can be a quick and easy way to calm worry or fear.  A new school year can be both exciting and a little stressful, so now is the perfect time to help the young people in your life be more mindful!

Mindfulness means to be fully present of where you are and what you are doing. The best way to help youth become more aware of their surroundings is by having them use their senses. Ask them what they see, hear, and anything else they might notice. Let them know why you are asking these questions and discuss what mindfulness is. Encourage kids to ask themselves questions about their surroundings when feeling overwhelmed. To help kids better tune into all five senses, try some mindful relaxation practices

When introducing mindfulness, share what skills you use when feeling overwhelmed. Use this great resource to keep the conversation going!
