Journaling for Educational Growth

Welcome to the final installment of our three-part series on journaling and how to integrate it into a young person's life. This week, we’re focusing on journaling for educational growth. Journaling can help to improve spelling, grammar and reading skills. A journal is meant to be a “safe space” where young people should feel free to express themselves as they’d like. So while reviewing the journal for perfect spelling isn’t a suggestion, you might help your young person practice his sight words or sentence structure.

Science experiments, social studies and even solving math problems can be incorporated into journaling. Prompting your child to record various facts, hypotheses and formulas can provide him a chance to go back and review the work, helping him to cement his thought process in solving different challenges.

Check out this Scholastic.com resource to learn more about how journaling benefits young people and how you can encourage them to start recording their thoughts and feelings.
