Getting Creative with "How Was Your Day?"

How was your day?

It’s a question that’s often met with a brief, vague and unenthusiastic response. It can be difficult to get young people to talk about their day, but we want to hear about what happened and what’s going on in their lives. To encourage kids to share more, get creative with your questions! Here are some great ones to start with:

  • Did anyone do anything super nice for you?
  • Who made you smile today?
  • What's your favorite thing to do at recess?
  • When did you feel most proud of yourself today?

Thinking outside of the "how was your day?" box can sometimes encourage young people to share more details about what's going on in their day-to-day lives.
