Provide Support

Encouraging Youth to Be Future-Focused

Let's Do This

Try these simple activities to help your young person feel supported and connected to others as they transition to adulthood.

  • Check in with them about their hopes for the future
Ask future focused questions such as "What kind of life do you imagine for yourself" or "What's one thing you want to get better at this year"
  • Share real-world advice and guidance
Speak together about common life experiences such job interviews, managing stress, setting boundaries, and more
  • Celebrate small accomplishments
Acknowledge and commemorate wins like setting new goals or tough decisions as they create a large impact
  • Offer to help with practical steps
Provide guidance on doable actions that will significantly better their future including resume building and practicing communication
  • Encourage goal setting in a timely fashion
Spend time together intentionally thinking about future achievements and how they may be reached in an efficient manner
