Cultivating Positive Self-Worth in Young People
Having a positive sense of worth and self-esteem can go a long way in helping young people and adults thrive. But there are sometimes ups and downs in life that cause us to question our self-worth or have us believing that we may not be as great as we really are.
If you notice that a young person in your life may be struggling with self-worth issues, it's important to talk with them and help them be more confident in themselves. Dr. Richard Rende, Ph.D. is a psychologist and parent. He shares: "[positive self-worth] provides the fuel for seeking out challenges, coping with adversity, developing positive relationships with peers, and taking good care of oneself. It leads kids and teens to value who they are and to strive to be their best self."
