Creating a Self-Care Plan

By now, most of us have heard the term "self-care," know what it means and try our best to include it in our busy lives. Practicing self-care can protect our health, improve resiliency and help us build stronger relationships. One way to be intentional about making sure you're taking care of yourself and others is to create a self-care plan.

Derived from information from the Mental Health First Aid training curriculum, you can use these questions to help create a plan:

  • What will I do for self-care?
  • Whom can I call at any time?
  • Whom can I reach out to if I need more help?

In order to support young people and be good mentors to them, it's essential that we're taking care of ourselves, too.

Self-care is important for young people, too! Work together with a young person in your life to create your own plans and talk through what you each need for your own self-care. It's okay if your plans look different...they probably will be! It's a great opportunity to learn from one another and to explore how you can continue to support your young person.
