Choose Kindness
How do you show children the impact words can have? One mother used toothpaste. Before her daughter started middle school, she told her to squeeze out an entire tube of new toothpaste. Once her daughter completed the task, mom asked her to put all the toothpaste back in the tube.
When her daughter protested, she used the opportunity to demonstrate the weight of words and impossibility of taking them back once spoken. It’s important to help children understand the impact of words and encourage them to use theirs to inspire, encourage and uplift. While they will sometimes make mistakes, take time to talk with them about how we can always strive to be kind and compassionate.
