Broadening Youth Horizons Through Art
Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Picasso understood the precious gift of creative expression free from fear, criticism and self-doubt. Art can help kids as they learn and grow by fostering creativity, improving academic performance, building confidence, developing visual-spatial skills and strengthening problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. For younger kids, art can also help to develop fine motor skills.
Weaving art and culture into daily activities is a great way to introduce children to art. There are lots of fun ways to connect kids to art and culture. Some examples include: free art galleries (like the Frick!) or Free Days at art galleries, public art, sculpture gardens or outdoor art and art programs for kids.
