Challenge Growth

Becoming a Mentor

Doing anything for the first time might be scary, but it’s hard to challenge personal growth without trying new things. Now that the new year is here, it’s the perfect time to start something new -- like mentoring!

As you embark on a new mentoring relationship, it’s important to keep a few considerations in mind:
Set aside ample time in order to get to know your mentee
Understand what your mentee wants to accomplish through mentoring
Establish expectations, objectives, and goals
Take turns leading the conversation
Be authentic by sharing both the strengths and challenges within the mentoring relationship

It’s also important as a first-time mentor to give yourself grace. Showing up and being your authentic self is the best way to mentor!
