Provide Support

Be a role model in accountability.

“Do what I say, not what I do.” It happens to all of us when working with youth. We slip up and don’t demonstrate the values we hope to impart on our young person. Owning our mistakes and having the difficult conversation with a young person about how we will hold ourselves accountable can be a powerful example for them. Take a moment to explain to them why your actions weren't in line with your values and then We all appreciate a little support when we are having a difficult time with something. Research actually shows that when youth feel supported in Everyday Mentoring relationships with adults, outcomes are more likely to be positive.
