TMP Program Spotlight: North Star Mentoring

Published

North Star Mentoring is an Erie County-based program that helps young people with a history of foster care and/or out of home placement to make permanent connections with positive adult role models. A collaboration between Bethesda Lutheran Services, Family Services of NW PA and the Erie County Office of Children and Youth, North Star serves young people ages 14-21.

North Star Mentoring of Erie County Independent Living Program is unique because it focuses on older adolescents who have limited support networks and who want to expand their support network. Their mentees range from 14-21 years old, have limited social supports and have a history of out of home placement.

North Star Mentoring works directly with its youth on independent living skills and goals their young people have for themselves, including education, employment, finances, living on their own and other skills needed for successfully managing life.

North Star Mentoring is looking for caring adults age 24 and above that want to make a difference in the life of a youth in Erie County. All volunteers are asked to make a minimum of 1 year commitment, 4 hours a month, one visit per week. Volunteers complete TMP's Mentoring 101 training to ensure they are ready to be matched.
