TMP Program Spotlight: Carnegie Library's Reading Buddies

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that 65 percent of fourth graders read at or below the basic level. The biggest way to change this for kids? Read more! That’s one reason why the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh engages caring adult volunteers known as Reading Buddies to read, play, and mentor kids.

In a library setting, volunteer mentors have access to creative supplies, technology, books, imaginative play materials, and more. Volunteers commit to helping out in a local library for a minimum of 4 hours per month, typically on evenings and weekends.
