March LENS: Bring, Brag, Borrow for Women's History Month

TMP, in collaboration with Remake Learning, is excited to celebrate Women's History Month with a Bring, Brag, Borrow meeting focused on girls' programming! Please come and share your best practices for working with young ladies in our region, whether it be mentoring, STEM or other focus. Be prepared to exchange ideas, discuss potential collaboration with other programs, and discuss ways we, as a region, can continue to expand possibilities for our future women leaders.

And to gear up for the meeting, check out the below girls'-focused mentoring programs doing amazing things in our region!

Gwen’s Girls
Gwen’s Girls has been empowering girls and young women in Allegheny County since 2002. Their After-School Program provides an opportunity for girls to interact with peers who have similar challenges and ambitions, get help with their homework, learn life skills, discover their unique talents and have fun. Providing girls with a safe environment in which to build healthy relationships can make all the difference when it comes to the decisions she makes and the future she chooses. Gwen’s Girls’ STEM Initiative promotes interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by exposing participants to captivating experiences and opportunities that promote critical thinking and problem solving, and to the breadth of STEM careers and professional opportunities through workforce initiatives.

Strong Women, Strong Girls
Strong Women, Strong Girls empowers girls to imagine a broader future through a curriculum grounded on female role models delivered by college women mentors, who are themselves mentored by professional women. They are reinventing mentoring with 10 years of proven results to shore up strength in girls from under-resourced communities by surrounding them with a community of strong women. SWSG serves girls in under-served communities, from 3rd through 5th grade, engaging them in small, structured, curriculum-based group mentoring.

YWCA STEM Stars
STEM Stars is a collaborative project of YWCA Greater Pittsburgh and Carnegie Science Center for economically disadvantaged girls. STEM Stars helps improve academic achievement, increase interest in STEM topics and careers, and decrease opportunity gaps for these girls. STEM Stars provides reading; math and science remediation and enrichment; hands-on project-based STEM activities; life skills development; mentoring; pre-college experiences; and STEM career exploration.
