Jaquayla is a 15 year old female who lives at the Gwen's Girls residential group home. Gwen's Girls is a non-profit organization that works with girls ages 8-18 to teach them the importance of self-sufficiency through education, love and support. Gwen's Girls also provides a mentoring program for their girls. In September 2008, Jaquayla was matched with a caring adult volunteer named Melanie. Melanie and Jaquayla meet weekly and take walks and hit the gym together. While there, Jaquayla can talk to Melanie about everyday things. Now Jaquayla is living a healthier lifestyle while having the opportunity to talk to her mentor in a safe and confidential setting.
