TMP Program Spotlight: Duquesne City School District

Published

Duquesne City School District harnesses the power of #EverydayMentoring to create a culture of mentoring in its hallways and the results are amazing!

"Everyday Mentoring is important to Duquesne because it further validates what already existed here," said Duquesne City School District Student Services Coordinator Eric Harper.  "We've always had support groups for our youth, but the Everyday Mentoring model attracted us because we like to be more intentional in what we are doing."

Students are mentored by support staff and teachers, but they can also join specific mentoring groups like The Princess and The Duchess Academies, The Gentleman's Academy and The Junior Constable Program. These three programs are extremely organized and recognized as elite membership(s) by their peers. Through these organizations, students gain a sense of pride and a determination to do the right thing, even when no one is looking.

Duquesne City School District staff are determined to see their children succeed in all areas and subjects throughout the school day. Families express joy and gratitude when watching their children participate in the school's mentoring groups. Collectively, this has strengthened the relationship between staff and student, as well as staff and parent.
